Solution design and leadership

I shape the design before the code: API specifications, integration patterns, estimates, and the technical guidance a delivery team needs to build it consistently.

Delivery inside your team

I work inside your delivery team rather than beside it: the same standups, the same peer review, and business requirements turned into design decisions with the people who own them.

AI does the repetitive transformation work. I validate the generated design, review the code for maintainability and enterprise standards, and own what ships.

Handover and early life

Delivery ends with your team able to run it: handover sessions on behaviour and operations, then early-life production support while it settles.

Enterprise Payments API · Senior Developer (Contract)

Context

Legacy and point-solution payment systems needed replacing with a capability that could orchestrate payments across multiple ledgers.

My role

Technical leadership for the development team and stakeholders. API specification and design alongside BAs, solution plans and estimates, and hands-on Spring Boot build.

Emphasis

Peer review discipline across the team to hold code quality and industry standards through a long modernisation programme.

MyACC for Business

Public-facing digital service · Senior Developer (Contract)

Context

Every New Zealand business owner, self-employed person and tax agent needed a way to manage ACC policies and levies online.

My role

System design and technical leadership, React front-end development, and Spring Boot back-end and API work — full stack across a three-year engagement.

Emphasis

Building for a nationwide public audience, where accessibility and reliability are not negotiable.

03 — CORE BANKING

2019 – 2021

SwiSH switch & settlement

Transaction routing platform · Java Consultant (Contract)

Context

A core banking platform routing ATM and EFTPOS transactions to downstream fraud and settlement systems.

My role

System design, development and production issue resolution, plus functional enhancements to meet changing business needs.

Emphasis

Complex, high-throughput systems where a routing defect is felt at the EFTPOS terminal within minutes.

Government integration programmes

Claims, payments and rules-engine systems

Context

Several years across New Zealand government agencies and enterprise clients, building integration layers between claims, payment and rules-engine systems.

My role

Microservices on OpenShift for a public-facing government service, integration-bus mediations for claims and rules platforms, and solution design alongside architects and BAs.

Outcome

Materially cut submission and validation delay on a government web portal enhancement.

Who you're working with

Moxietree Enterprise Limited was founded by Paul Benting, a contract software developer in Wellington, New Zealand, with 19 years of commercial experience across finance, government, telecommunications and data analytics.

It's a one-person practice, which means the person you scope the work with is the person who designs it, writes it and hands it over. No account layer, no bench.

Most of my engagements are senior contract roles inside existing delivery teams: integration and API work for New Zealand's major banks and government agencies, usually on systems that already carry production load. I'm currently working on an AI-assisted migration of MuleSoft integration services to Spring Boot for a major New Zealand bank.
